Angove Winery
The Angove winemaking story began in 1886 when Dr William Thomas Angove established a medical practice in Tea Tree Gully in the beautiful rolling Adelaide foothills twenty kilometres North East of the centre of Adelaide, South Australia.
At a recent dinner held at the Art House Hotel in Sydney I was privileged to be invited to an Angove dinner where we sampled the revamped range of Angove wines. The wines impressed so much we made them a winery of the month. With around 150 years of wine making in the family, it is of no wonder why. Apart from excellent food and company the wines were of an overall great quality, exhibiting excellent varietal definition and regional characteristics.
Stand outs for myself were the 2007 Riesling, 2011 Crest Chardonnay, 2010 Crest Grenache/Shiraz/Mouvedre, 2010 Mount Benson Chardonnay, 2010 Vineyard Select Shiraz, 2010 Warboys Grenache and of course the flagship wine the Medhyk shiraz 09 which was in tiny quantities. I did manage to secure a 6 pack, which unfortunately was sold long ago to a lucky few.
